![]() ![]() So I chose my size based on my bicep measurements and, in the end, I couldn’t be happier with how it fits all over. I read this post on Wiksten’s website, suggesting that the bicep measurement is actually one of the most important, as you really need enough ease around the arm, whereas the rest of the dress has a more flexible fit. I read some reviews before sewing suggesting that it tended towards being too big and Wiksten is known for an oversized aesthetic so I was a little bit nervous in selecting the size. My Wiksten Shift Dress is a size 16 and I think the sizing is spot on for me. ![]() For reference, after pre-washing, my fabric had shrunk to 105cm wide and I just managed to squeeze this Wiksten Shift Dress out on 3.2 metres of it. For the yoke panel at the back, I used t his cotton/nylon lace from The Fabric Store. My Wiksten Shift Dress is sewn from t his lovely flax embroidered cotton from Ray Stitch. I’ve seen some lovely versions in feature stripes, in particular. The joys of a simple sewing pattern is that, sometimes, it can really be an opportunity for a beautiful fabric to shine – and I definitely get this vibe when looking at some of the Wiksten Shift Dresses out there. I am, frankly, a little bit in love with it! Ridiculously comfortable and perfect for warm weather. My Wiksten Shift Dress is amazing, right? Pin.The Wiksten Shift has definitely been one of the ‘hit’ patterns of summer 2019 in the online sewing community – so here’s my take on the Wiksten Shift Dress. Fold bias tape down toward dress, ensuring that it is all hidden from the right side of the dress. Repress the remaining fold on the bias tape while you are at it, if necessary.ħ. Press seam toward dress with binding away from the dress. Carefully clip notches around the curves.Ħ. ![]() Sew binding to dress with 1/4" seam allowance, following the crease of the bias tape. These finger pressed edges will be the triangle in the image above of combining bias tape. This won't be visible when the dress is finished, but still make sure your seams are not on the front for dress. Unfold one edge of bias tape and pin right side of bias tape on right side of neckline. Fold and iron 1/4" of both long sides of bias tape to make double folded bias tape. Don't be a slacker and use a straight strip. It makes the bias tape really stretchy so it will lay nicely. In order to preserve fabric, you can combine two short pieces together at a diagonal.Ĭutting on the bias means cutting the fabric on a diagonal. I usually use a fabric marker and a clear ruler. Cut strip on the bias that is 1" wide and around 26" in length. But you will feel so legit when it's done.Īlso, try not to tug or pull or stretch the fabric during this part. I'm just going to say it - this is the worst part. It's really loose and versatile, so you can wear it alone with a long necklace with ankle booties, with a belt and a cardigan, or half tucked with jeans as a shirt. This dress is designed with a 3-4” ease at the hips. Size 16 will need just a few inches over 2.5 yds unless you shorten it ) (Sizes 0-4 can get away with half of the yardage if Pattern Piece A fits between width of the fabric once it is pre-shrunk.
